About this class

For most custom builds, the homeowner gives input on the floor plan and finishes. The decision of how to build the home is generally left to the contractor, to do it how he's always done it. Unfortunately, there's a reason that the vast majority of homes are moldy.

The way to do this differently is for you as the homeowner to figure out not just what you want built, but how you want it built. Floor plans and elevations don’t make a complete plan set. Your plans should include detailed drawings of exactly how your home will be put together.

In this class, I’ll help you figure out how your home should be built, so you can communicate it to your build team and make sure it get built that way.

This class will walk you through decisions about what is important to you in a healthy home, how you want it to be put together, what your floor plan should be, what kind of building materials you want to use, and how they should be installed. For instance, when we talk about foundations, the lectures and workbook will help you decide what kind of foundation might work best for your build site, and define the requirements for how your foundation should be designed and built.

When you finish this class, you'll have a personalized requirements document for your healthy home. You'll understand why you made the decisions that you made, and you'll be able to hand that document to your architect or designer or design builder and say, this is what the home should look like and, more importantly, this is how it should be built.

Knowing what you need going in is the only way to make sure that you end up with that at the end, and that's what this class will teach you.
